how do you change formula?
« on: March 23, 2006, 16:27:32 pm »
i would like to try a different formula for my 5 1/2 month old daughter to try to deal with constipation...do you just switch right over or do you mix the 2 formula's?  is it a gradual switch or just from one to the other?
(there are alot of other avenues we are looking into with ped..has had bloodwork done for thyroid etc as she is still constipated despite prunes, prune juice, supository (spelling??)...

You will probably get many different responses. When we switched formulas we just switched cold turkey. Many people suggest mixing the two, as you described, they think it is easier on the baby. The following link is a great resource for how to mix your old formula with your new one.

When I moved from Aptamil to Omneo Comfort William was in such pain with colic that in desperation I just switched one day... not ideal really but in the end it paid off.
When I tried to switch him back to normal formula when he had passed 4 months I offered him 1 bottle a day of the new formula, then when he was ok with that moved to 2 and then 3.. as my health visitor advised. I say tried as he didn't like the new formula much so I went back to omneo lol... but the gradual switch created no tummy problems etc.. he just didnt like the new one at all lol.

We also had problems with constipation, but this was when we switched to the stage 2 formula for hungry babies - when we switched back things seemed to sort themselves out.

At 8 months we switched to the stage 3 formula for babies over 6 months as it has extra iron in and this contipated him too so we switched back to stage 1 again.
