Single side or both?
« on: March 31, 2006, 04:53:18 am »
Hey all,
I have a 71/2 week old daughter. Currently I find her from one breast only each feed and she seems quite content. The community nurse suggested that I should offer her the second breast, especially in the evening feeds. I thought that my body would produce the required amount of milk for her needs from one breast at a time as this is the pattern I've been following since my milk came in. Any thoughts out there???? ::)

If she seems content and you're happy with how it's going I don't think you have to change. Lots of women continue single-sided feeding for a significant time. I continued for months until I felt Sam was needing a bit more. If your body is used to single-sided feeding it will produce the milk needed as you say. If you think about it women who breastfeed twins stay single-sided for each baby just fine.

I agree with Samuel's mum!  I was always told to single side feed and I didn't start feeding from both sides until the 6 month growth spurt.

If your baby seems happy and is doing well then I would keep doing what you are doing!!!
