what I've learned
« on: April 04, 2006, 16:17:00 pm »
I don't know if this will help any of you but I have been keeping a sleeping log for my DS for a few weeks now in the hope that I can spot any patterns relating to his 45 minute naps and also his night wakings. Some nights he sleeps without a sound all night and other nights he'll wake several times. Well, our day usually starts about 6.30-7 and bedtime is between 7 & 8. Depending on his naps in the daytime his last catnap is somewhere between 4.30 and 6. I secretly preferred it if it was nearer to 6 because this meant bedtime was a little later and he might then sleep until at least 7am! Well, he but does but what I also learnt was that when his catnap was late, we had more night wakings! If he wakes from this nap before 6, we usually have a good night but if its after then we have more wakings so the later wake-up time in the morning doesn't really make much difference because I've had a rubbish nights sleep.  ::) It also leads to a bad night if he has had a very short nap (15-20 mins) in the car somewhere too, espcially if its late afternoon. Now I know what I need to try to avoid although it isn't always possible of course but I'm glad I learnt something. Hope it might help some of you too.

That's really interesting that you found it too, Stacy. My problem is that DS usually wakes before 7. In fact, we had the first perfect BW type day today. We actually had 3 naps instead of 4 or 5 but the only reason this happened was because he slept till 7.30 because he was so tired from being up half the night!  ::) His tiredness also meant he had a really long nap around lunch time. This is also a rare event as we are constantly battling with the 45 minute nap monster! I've got my fingers crossed for a good night tonight. The theory says he should do-we'll see! LOL!

Ummmm! Not sure what's going on. he was crying in his sleep a lot last night. Most of the time he stopped after a minute or so but a couple of times I had to get up to put the dummy in. He was quicky to settle though so better than last night. You any idea what the crying in his sleep is all about?  :-\

sometimes lo's do fuss in their sleep and they soothe themselves back to sleep - were you possibly going in too soon?

I didn't go in at all. He did settle himself very quickly. It was just odd that he did it about 6 times in the night.   :-\

I think it might have been overtiredness. He had slept quite well during the day but the previous night he was awake a lot so it might have built up from there. He has slept very well today so fingers crossed he has a peaceful sleep ALL night!  ;D
