5 week old dropping 'late feed'
« on: April 15, 2006, 13:44:51 pm »
Florence has firmly put herself on a 4-hrly routine from day one.

If we try to shift it to 3 hrly she has terrible trouble taking any milk and we just end up with a wailing baby.

The last 2 nights she has only drank half of a 4oz bottle at her late feed (10-11pm) before falling so soundly asleep we cannot wake her, and with mouth firmly closed!
She then wakes around 3-4am for next feed which she takes properly.

Do we just go with this until shes a little older then introduce a dream feed?  I am panicking because I feel like she wants to keep the middle of the night one, when she could go a much longer stretch if she didn't drop this feed!!

Hints, help, anything!! PLEEEEEEEEASE

Hi
Can you please post your EASY routine with amounts of formula. The late feed between 10 - 11pm is classsed as a dreamfeed if they have been sleeping before hand.

Your Lo is very young, mist babies still have a 3 or 4 hr cycle throughout the night and don't drop feeds until much later,.

Thanks for replying  :)

Florence's routine is as follows:

0800 4oz
A
0830/0845 S

1200 4oz
A
1300 S

1600 4oz
A
1645 S

2000 4oz (and here's where our problems start)
A - 2 hrs+ being unsettled/crying
2230 S

2359 E 2oz
A (nappy/winding)
0045 S

0400 E 3/4oz
(nappy/winding)

We think the problem is partly wind/colic.  She is really having trouble bringing it up now and sometimes wakes mid-sleep period and needs burping.  We've just bought colief drops in an attempt to work on this.

Also, Florence was 4w prem, and so we're having huge difficulties keeping her awake after feeds.  She is slowly becoming a little more alert, but some feeds she just zonks out on your shoulder whilst being winded.

Hope you can offer us some advice!
