Is he getting enough?
« on: April 21, 2006, 16:30:40 pm »
Hi! My LO is 7 months now, was stricktly bf upto 6 months, at which point I started him on solids and weened him slowly to formula.  He now has formula through the day and I still nurse at night.  He has always been a snacker, nursing for short periods of time, now that he drinks formula, he drinks between 2 and (if we're lucky) 4 oz of formula every 2 hours roughly and sometimes, hardly any at all.  How do I get him to increase his formula intake during the day, so he drinks more, but less often?  He also wakes alot during the night, could this be because he doesn't get enough during the day?  PLEASE HELP! Thank you!

Hi

Ultimately you are looking to get him in a 4hr EASY for his age, however you may need to start at 3 and build up in 15 min increments over a period of a couple of weeks or more.  See plan attached....

Is it possible for you to post your current routine and include anoutns of formula and solids and then I can look at it further for you.

thanks
Lauren

It does look like your LO is a snacker! The problem with snacking is that they get used to eating so often and then they wake in the night, as you are seeing. Then you feed in the night and they are not hungry during the day for full feedings. Do you have Tracy's second book? If so, on pages 120-121 Tracy talks about snackers and how to get them on a better feeding schedule. If you do not have the book, let me know and I will type in what is says. Other good pages on snacking are 124 and 97-98.
