What is realistic to expect?
« on: April 22, 2006, 07:07:24 am »
My DS has been sleeping pretty badly , partly due to illness and now partly habit I think and was wondering what's realistic to expect from a 6mo? Last night was a very good night and he went to bed 7.30pm woke 11 for feed then 4.30, gave him paci and back to sleep till 6, fed and after playing in bed for 10mins or so slept till 8. Should he still b feeding at night?

All babies are different but mine was not eating at night (inc dreamfeed) from about 4 months. How much  your little one is taking at that feed will give you some indication as to whether he really is hungry or whether it is habitual;the approach to stopping that feed will therefore depend on that.

If you are breastfeeding then what you have described is VERY normal. I only know about breastfed babies so I can't comment otherwise. Dreamfeed and one night feed is very standard. In fact 11-4.30 is a good stretch by a lot of people's standards.
I would call the 6am feed the start of the day and then he's having another nap but I guess you might think of it as a night feed depending on whether you're a 'morning' person!
