Dropping the bottle and going to training cup?
« on: April 24, 2006, 01:14:57 am »
Hi Everyone,

My DD has been really fussy with her bottle lately won't take much before she gets wriggly and distracted. So i started a few weeks ago giving her milk in a cup with her meals to get more into her. She took to it very quickly and loves it and is now taking around 4ozs everytime so only has 4ozs in her bottle. I am happy about this as i wanted to have the bottle gone by 12months.
So my question is when did/do you intend to get rid of your babies bottle and replace it with a cup?

mmmm... I'm not sure Natasha....

I ran out of bottles the other morning and had to resort to using a sippy for a full bottle, didn't go to well - he took about an oz before I got frustrated and had to clean and sterilise a bottle.

The most he has taken is 4oz in his cup.

But I will keep perservering  ;D

I was completely rid of the bottle during the day by twelve months. As soon as I introduced whole milk I offered it with the three meals and kept a morning and night bottle. Then by 13 months I dropped both of those also.

I would have dropped the bottle at 8 months (we mostly breastfeed, anyway), but ds can finish 8 oz. from a sippy cup in 2 minutes flat!  I can't even drink that fast.  It can't be good for his tummy, can it?  So I am back to the slow-flow nipples on the bottle to slow him down a bit.

At what age did you get rid of the lunch time bottle? I am finding my DD's lunch bottle is decreasing. i give her milk in a cup with her lunch?

DS was completely off bottles at 10 months. He had all of his formula and water in the sippy. We started introducing the cup around 6 months. By 9 months, he was drinking very well from it. So, at 10 months I tried one day just offering him his formula in the cup and he never missed the bottle.

Ok girls i tired giving her afternoon bottle in a cup and dhe drank it within 5mins did'nt even miss the bottle. Tried her bedtime and morning bottle also no worries so i think "NO MORE BOTTLE FOR US"

Catherine finished her 7ozs this morning in a few minutes as well and is happy no worries she was always a frustrated drinker with the bottle we had to change to a fast flow teat very early (and the reason why she wouldn't breastfeed to lazy).
Thanks for the replies.
