right now the only food i'm giving her (just started 4 days ago!) is cereal- so that's room temp., what i do is take the milk that's in the storage bottle out of the fridge, give a good couple of shakes (i read that you shouldn't really shake it, but it's the only way for me to really get it all mixed well) let it sit for about 15 minutes, then get the cereal in a coffe mug (it's easier for me to hold while feeding her- good tip from super baby food) shake the milk again and pour appropriate amount into the cup, mix and serve.  it is VERY easy.... ;D  and i'm thinking about our next food and plan to "make" the pears (cook them then mix w/liquid and freeze in the ice cube trays) and didn't plan on heating that up either afger initial prep.  i did read on the laxative thread though (i think that's where!) that warming it up is good in your lo has a hard time digesting...so that's something to consider...but for now scarlett seams to enjoy it room temp/cool and it's not much of a hassle.  i'll have to check out if there are any nutrient pros or cons...

...just saw your post messa - you know - dd is teething right now - maybe that's why she really likes it!

When Tyler started solids, we warmed the cereal. Once we got him used to cold food, we still gave him cereal but didn't warm it. If I remember right, I shook the bottles of breastmilk after taking them out of the fridge. After some shaking, the goop on the sides mixed back in. And yes, we did food and bottles straight out of the fridge.

Oh Scarlett's mom I am so glad the tip helped. It sure helped us. Also, I been meaning to tell you that Scarlett is just gorgeous! You know I was unsure of it at first,  but after great reviews from this site I bought the Super Baby Food book and it is fantastic! If you havent already you might want to take a look.

Thanks ladies I will try the defrost thing when on the move. However, I think Gage would rather eat store bought ::) yet another dillemma.

Messa, where did you get the food warmer?

I actually have the Super Baby Food book - it is very good - i've just browsed through and have taken tips here and there but need to really set aside some time and give it the respect it deserves!

I bought a travel bottle warmer. It has a flexible band that you can put around the food container. Usually I connect it to the cigarrete lighter of my car and by the time I have arrived to my destination, the food is warm.

Hi everyone all the tips are fab and will be using them on my outings. the only thing i wanted to ask was when out and mixing cereal with veggies/fruit puree do you keep it all separate then when ready heat the milk and then add to cereal and then mix in the puree?
also my lo has taken to weaning perfectly but at the moment i mix all her purees with a bit of cereal what happens if i dont mix and just give the veggie on its own and she doesnt like it do i go back to mixing it with the cereal or continue to offer it on its own ?

thanks
