Early wakings - could he be too warm?
« on: May 03, 2006, 14:43:55 pm »
OK, so this is a real clutching at straws things, but I'm back to being woken up at 5.20am again. After I thought we were getting somewhere over the weekend: 6am, 6.50am, 6.20am - its back again.

I have tried everything, blacking out room, bigger feed at night, less sleep during the day, earlier than 7pm bedtime...but nothing is getting us back to the 6.30-6.45am we used to get. I think we are resigned to getting to bed early, which means I see my hubby for approx 1 hour in the evening after he gets home!

BUT, this morning when he got Caspar up, hubby called out that he was wet. Ah-hah, I thought, OK, fair enough. But, he wasn't, at least not with wee. Could he be waking up when he's in the light phase of sleep as he's too warm? Currently he has a longsleeved vest, longsleeved cotton sleepsuit and 2.5 tog grobag - same as in winter. Our house is old and cold, but its 18-19C in his room now, not 16-17C...

What are other babies wearing now things are warming up? He's quite a warm baby to cuddle...

Our dd sleeps in a fleece sleeper and a onesie.  Her room is pretty cool and our dr. told us that babies prefer cooler temperatures.  actually, most people do.  I think it may be too much that he's in.  I would try elminating one layer and see what happens and then if still hot I would go from there.  hth

Don't know what part of the world you're in but here in Vancouver Canada- same thing. Now it's 18 or 19 at night. I dress DS in a fleece sleeper- no onesie- and a flannel half-swaddle. I am also getting increasing early mornings from him. i just don't get it at all! We went from 7:30 to 7:00 to 6:40 to 6:00 this morning. The last thing I need after a night of waking up every few hours is an early morning!

Early mornings seem somehow worse than night wakings sometimes! Don't know if I'm speaking out of turn here but my little one went through this stage too. She has never been a late sleeper but 6am was pretty consistent till she started waking at 5ish for a while. No change to her routine - she just started waking then - much to our horror! The phase passed and she's back to waking at 6 again - even better, it's become 6:30 lately!! I do think your little one may be a bit hot but it could also be a phase you just have to sit out!

Its been a long phase, he was fine sleeping through from 11-15 weeks and from then onwards we've had random early wakings. I think some of it is hunger, as he's doing x5 8-9oz bottles now too (no solids yet). This morning it was worse, it was 5am as he was doing a poo!

Well, it was 19 in his room last night, and its 22 now (hottest day in the UK so far this year) so I think I'll just try a sleepsuit (long sleeved) tonight plus his grobag.
