Going on holiday advice
« on: May 03, 2006, 19:45:47 pm »
DS will be just 6 months when we go on holiday to Italy. I'm really looking forward to it but am dreading the whole food thing. I don't think they will do our formula there so am having to take 2 tins with me! I'm not sure what they will do in the way of jarred baby foods so I am taking my blender but I'm just not sure how I will cope with it all. I have already started him on solids and we've done a lot of pureed fruits and veg. What sort of things is he likely to be eating by 6 months? Any advice on what I can make him that is easy to prepare? Will he be on meat by then? Is there anything I shouldn't cook? I am doing my best to try as many things separately first but there is no way I can try everything before we go away? There are no major allergies in our families. Any tips? At 6 months, do I offer food before milk? I know I have to make sure he is still having about 30oz of formula.

Hi.

I use to live in Italy when my DD was from 4months on 10 months and you can get baby Jared food there.I just spent a week there, about 2weeks ago but took my own formula from spain as it is different. The only thing i noticed was the juice was different to the one my Ds has now.
But they have food there in Jars for you to use.
Hope that makes you feel a bit better.

Thanks Andrea. I assumed they would. I just have to figure out the language now! LOL!

Stacy: thanks. We are going for 12 days. I think I will just stick to what I'm doing now with the fruit and veg and hopefully get a few jars when I'm there too so I'm not cooking the whole time!

They have pictures on all the food,so you will be fine.
Thats all I did for the 9months I was there.
Not sure of the age of your little one,but if she is having normal milk, you can buy fresh normal milk, would reccomend that then the non fresh one.Nicer taste,I think.

Cath,
just let me know what Formula you are using and I can let you know what we have available here. We have brands such as Hipp which you should know and other Italian ones which helped my DD grow into a fighting fit toddler so don't worry - we're a bit behind in certain things but not on the food front ;)
Let me know all the details you need info on and I'll be more than pleased to help you out. Also let me know where you are going (I don't want to be nosey but I might be able to give you more info that way) and what sort of accommodation you are staying in. If you are staying in a hotel they may have a special baby kitchen for you to cook in. Plus I am always glad to welcome anyone of you kind ladies to my home if you are in or around Turin :-* :-*

mcruari: yet another reason why this site is so good! Its worldwide!  ;D How lovely that you live in Italy. We are going to Lake Garda-typical tourist spot!  ;) We are staying on a Keycamp site in a static caravan. We've already asked if they sell our formula (SMA Gold) on the site and they said no. Do you know if they sell it anywhere in the normal shops? I'm glad they have Hipp over there. At least that will be a brand we are familiar with. Thanks
