switching from breast to formula
« on: May 05, 2006, 21:18:59 pm »
Hi everyone,
I've decided to stop breast feeding my 5month old dd, and i don't know how to make the switch. She takes a bottle and has had formula( we had alot of trouble breast feeding at first). I'm just worried about constipation and how to get my milk to dry up. I've started her on rice cereal at dinner she gets about 1tsp to two oz of breast milk, and is doing well. We just started the easy routine because she is still waking at night. Last night was the first time I didn't feed her at night and even though she was up alot we made it till 7am!! I did a dream feed around 11pm.Any tips and suggestions would be very helpful.Thankyou in advance.

I stopped bf my dd at that age, and what I did was replace one bf with a bottle each 4-5 days.  I didn't have any engorgement problems, but I think my supply was low anyway.  Many moms swear by cabbage leaves to dry up your milk.
