It took mine at least 3-4 weeks.  One day, she just got it.  I started at 5 1/2 months and she didn't take to the spoon until 6 1/2 months.  We tried the mesh feeder to get her used to swallowing and also the taste.  But one day, she just did it.

It was around 3 weeks or so for us too. We started early, at about 4.5 months, but pretty slowly. But overnight we went from food going everywhere except down his throat to just a little mess around his mouth (until he gets his hands in it...).

I think it took us about 2 weeks or so. Your DS will get better, don't worry!  :)

What I did with Ewan was to put the spoon in his bottom lip then when he opened up I would get the food as far back on his tongue as I could to make it easier for him.  Once he realized what it was he caught on a lot faster.

hee hee! Thanx! I think i'm just a bit eager for him to get the hang of it and ENJOY it he hasnt had the best time with feeding and would love him to have a good experience with solids! I think i'm begining to get what he likes and doesnt like! He is on a special weaning prog due to being unwell so it was rabbit (*?!) first which he loved then lamb (seemed to hate!) then chicken which he enjoys!!
Takes him ages tho so i think he gets bored after a while LOL
