Baby Cafe?
« on: May 08, 2006, 07:22:32 am »
Hi Everyone,

Has anyone been involved in setting up a Baby Cafe? We are thinking of setting one up where I live and it would be good to draw on anyones experience.

Thanks

Claire

If you're in the UK the name is 'copyrighted' but you can still set one up through the organisation. This might be helpful:

i go to one every thursday. it's great actually, and run by our local health visitor who is BF supportive.

ours is under threat though because it costs the health service money to run and our numbres are dwindling (which reflets the poor BF numbers in my area).

they run it in a local church hall.

they put chairs out in circles and put duvets on the floor for babies to roll around on, and some baby toys like rattles as well. There's also toys for older kids too since some mums also bring their toddlers.

there is always tea and biscuits, and we don't pay anything for it at present, though in the future (to help fund the "babycafe" licence) it's going to cost us about 50p a week.

it's funny actually that there are three of us who go and are good friends (we met there) with babies exactly 1 month  and 2 months apart, and we all put going to babycafe before anything else!!  one girl couldn't go last week because of a funeral for someone at work, and she said she was gutted when she found out the funeral was on thursday and she'd have to miss babycafe!!  :D
