When did your LO find their thumb?
« on: May 11, 2006, 06:42:17 am »
Good day ladies,

My youngest daughter is 8 wks today.  She has a terrible time going to sleep for naps, but sleeps ok at night (once asleep).  My first born (23 mths) was the same way until she found her thumb at 10wks.  I think that's what my youngest is looking for all the time.  She is always trying to suck her fist, etc, but can't control it yet.  The no napping thing is killing me and my eldest.  She will take a paci a bit, but tends to spit it out before she is asleep, then gets frustated cuz it's not there.  I don't think she likes it all that much.  I am hoping she is a thumb sucker as my eldest has always slept so well by self soothing.

So, just a question to those whose babies sucked their thumb..  what age did your LO start sucking?

My Lo who was a thumb sucker in the womb (she was sucking during the US) has just begun to find her thumb regularly...she is 11 weeks and it really just started yesterday.  She found it four or five times in one hour so she must be getting the hang of it.  I am ready for her to have it too because she needs a paci a lot more than I want to give it to her- don't want it to be a prop that I encourage.  I k now I'll regret it (letting her have her thumb) when she is three but right now it sounds pretty good.  My DS was great at letting the paci fall out and then not needing it again.  Maybe yours willstart soon....some babies just don't suck their thumbs though.

My tinker found his at the 4 month mark. And not a moment too soon. He was addicted to sucking to sleep (on me!) and I was dreading having to break him of the habit. It took one accidental overtired nap for him to learn how to self-soothe. I couldn't believe my eyes when he started sucking on his thumb as I was swaddling him!
