2wk old baby that sleeps too much?
« on: May 12, 2006, 15:14:57 pm »
My lo is actually not even 2weeks - 9 days old.I was told by the hospital to wake her up for her feeds if she didn't herself, which i have done. The fact is that i have to wake her up for practically every single feed and she is now on a 3hr routine as she is gaining weight so well and she is also an extremely efficient suckler.(i am single side bf by the way) I just don't know whether i should just leave her to wake up when she is hyngry because then will i throw out all idea if a routine for her?
also i'm not sure about the a time in easy. our LO seems just to eat and sleep although she does fuss during the day but also yawns at the same time - which is when i put her down but then she just fusses until i pick her up or we give her a pacifier. In other words i'm not sure whether she is tired or whether she just wants to look around.

Any advice from anyone pls??

A time for most lo's that age is diaper change and a quick snuggle.  Otherwise they just eat and sleep.  No advice on the eating part as mine is formula fed and was on every 2 hours 'round the clock then.   :o

If it ain't broke you probably don't need to fix it.  If she is happy and putting on weight it sounds like you are doing great  :)

Enjoy it while it lasts x

Ds also just ate and slept until about 6 weeks and then could stay up a bit longer.  I never woke for a feed except when we were in the hospital because he had only ate .25ozs in 24 hrs.  Let your lo do her thing for awhile, and you might be surprised she might just make her own schedule.  At that age your doing a lot of weigh ins so as long as shes gaining weight your go to go.
I was always worried cause ds seemed to sleep so much, only now at 10months can he be awake for 3hours at a time.  Some need more sleep then others. same as adults :)

All those months ago I remember thinking "Why will she not stay awke longer than an hour"?
Babies grow while sleeping and when they feed it takes energy as well as all the niew surrondings. As long as she feeding well and puting weight on,........all is well. In another few weeks you will be askinh "How do I keep her entertained"?

Go with your feelings they won't let you down.

I had very sleepy Lo's both times.  I had to wake them because they were a little lazy and not good at wanting to feed.  Also, I had milk supply issues because my Lo was so tired and not a good feeder.  If I let him go longer than three hours, my milk supply would suffer.  Just something to keep in mind.  I too wondered if my son would ever wake up.  He slept for a good solid four weeks and he was about two weeks early.  My DD slep for closer to 6 weeks.  IT's normal especially at ten days old.  Not to worry!    Good luck
