4 hour easy A too long
« on: May 14, 2006, 08:24:48 am »
Hi there,
ziyang is coping really well with the 4 hour easy in terms of his feeds.  He can hold out four hours between feeds.  The problem is that he can only cope with a time being an hour and a half max.  So therefore seems to have a very long time for sleeping.  S period of 2 and a half hours is made worse when he only sleeps 45 min naps.

So do i spend the whole session extending him sleeps during the am?

And what happens to his A time in the next session after his feed 11 am? As he has been awake in the previous "s" session he can't sustain the hour and a half, so we end up with a routine that doesn't kind of follow a 4 hour easy (apart from his feeds)  Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance, Irene

Could you post his routine please.

How old is he?

When my DD could only stay up hour and half, I found it a lot easier doing a 31/2 hr EASY.

Hi corrina, here's the timetable as requested.  When he sleeps two hours Jack's routine is exactly the same as the 4 hour easy in Tracey's one in her third book

ea: 7.00
s:9.00 (pupd done till e time)

ea:11.00
s: 12.30 (if only sleeps 1 hour and a half) pupd done at 2.00pm until I am  within 20 mins of his feed then I bring him out of his room

ea: 3.00
s: 4.30 (as he is normally showing tired signs by now)

eas:5.15-6.30/6.45 bedtime

How long does each nap last?

Spirited babies are often the difficult ones in terms of sleep.  They can be stimulated by PU/PD.  Does sush/pat work with Jack?

I will post my 3 1/2 routine for you.  This is the one I had at 5 months

7am Feed
8.55am Sleep (1hr 35mins)
10.30 Feed
12.10pm Sleep (1hr 50mins)
2pm Feed
3.30pm Sleep (1hr 30mins)
5pm Feed
6pm Bath
6.45pm feed
7pm Sleep
10pm Dreamfeed

Thanks corrina for your routine...should I go back to 3 and a half hour feeds even though he is coping with 4 hour feeds?

Jack can sleep for 1hour and a half and occassionally two hours but this requires wake to sleep.

Shush pat works with jack if i apply pressure to his upper arms whilst holding his hands and shushing into his ear. But this isn't used all the time. My husband told me yesterday to have a go at not picking up jack when he wakes up and makes this whining noise in his cot. So when he woke yesterday i lurked but I didn't go to him and he went back to sleep!!!
appened on his evening sleep so I'm going to try it on his day naps during the weekend, when hubby is home for some support. I'm assuming that for pick up and put down it's only therefore suppose to be used for proper crying and not whining and grizzling...this could be the mistake that I have been making!!

If he is coping okay with 4hr feeds its okay there is nothing wrong with AEASY.

Your husband is right.  PU/PD is only used when they are crying, not fussing and whining.  The fussing and whining is there way of going back to sleep.
