Dream Feeds, Cluster Feeds and EASY for a 17day old - SOS
« on: May 16, 2006, 09:52:07 am »
I'm trying to implement the EASY for my little 17 day old Torin. Yesterday was the first day, and I have some questions that I can't find answers to in the book:
Yesterday looked like this:
E 06:55 - 07:40
A 07:40 - 08:15
S 08:30 - 10h10

E 10:10 - 10:50
A 10:50 - 11:15
S 11:30 - 12:55

E 12:55 - 13:40
A 13:40 - 14:15
S 14:20 - 15:45

E 15:45 - 16:00 and then he fell asleep
E 16:18 - 17:00
A 17:00 - 17:15
S 17:25 - 18:50

E 18:50 - 19:10 [part of dream feed - he was in such a deep sleep, I felt awful waking him, and he only ate little as he kept falling asleep]
A none - fast asleep
S 19:10 - 20:26

E 20:26 - 21:06 [not a good feed as kept falling asleep too] - it feels as though the first cluster feed is too close to the last afternoon feed - as he's not hungry to take in the full 40mins, and then the next cluster feed is too close too - again too full]
A 21:06 - 21:30
S 21:50 - 00h45 [I didn't wake him, he woke on his own hungry - we fell asleep - severely sleep deprived]

E 00:45 - 01:00 [then he fell stopped sucking - this was our attempt at a dream feed, once he was off he didn't want to latch anymore until 15mins later - help]
E 01:15 - 01:30
A - none
S 01:50 - 04:35 [again he woke up himself hungry]

E 04:35 - 05:20
A 05:20 - 05:45 [all activities are nappy change with a little cuddle time]
S 06:00 - 08:25

E 08:25 - 09:10 [so much for starting again at 7am - help!!]
A 09:10 - 09:18
S 09:29 - 10:39 he only went to sleep at 10am and then had very interrupted sleep, kept waking & niggling.

E 10:39 - 11:15 [he woke up crying and rooting like mad, after 39mins sleep] I'd barely finished my breakfast and am still in my pj's  :-[
A 11:15 - 11:25
S 11:38 - he hasn't gone to sleep yet, keeps crying and then stopping and then crying and stopping  :'(

Anyone got any ideas what I can do differently?

Thanks 4 the help, Maz

Hi Maz  :D

Ideally what you are looking for in your routine is this (if you are sure he can stay awake this long between naps) if not adjust the 'A' time accordingly and do wind down as part of 'A' time;-

E: 7.00am
A: 7.45  - look to start Torin's wind down at 8.15am or as soon as you see sleep cues after the feed.
S: 8.30

E: 10.00am
A: 10.45 - look to start Torin's wind down at 11.15am or as soon as you see sleep cues after the feed.
S: 11.30

E: 1.00pm
A: 1.45 - look to start Torin's wind down at 2.05pm or as soon as you see sleep cues after the feed.
S: 2.20

E: 4.00pm
A: 4.45 - look to start Torin's wind down at 8.15am or as soon as you see sleep cues after the feed.
S: 5.25  **CATNAP ONLY  45mins**

E: 6.00pm
A: bath at 7
E: 7.30pm
A: 10 mins  ***no activity as such, only wind down***
S: 8 -

10.30pm Dreamfeed https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=54662.0  ****dreamfeed may take up to a week to see any benefits***   I think you are breastfeeding, however here is alink to dreamfeeding FAQ's in the bottlefeeding forum that will help you.

or

if you did not CF you 'E' times would be 7am,10,1,4,7pm + DF is between 10 + 11pm only. The 1am & 4.30am feeds look normal for a LO this age.

I can see you are following EASY 24hrs, just follow your routine from your set wake up time to bedtime only (and do your DF). Anything else is classed as a night feed/waking and you have no 'A' time here. Don't change the nappy unless soiled or wet through or it is making your LO uncomfortable, don't change it if it doesn't need changing.

Hope this answers your questions  ???  I think your Lo is just really tired, especially in the evening - ideally you should look to get a 12ishhr day i.e 7am - 7.30pm
