Wow, I'm in the same boat.  My almost 4 month old has learned in the last few days to roll from back to front and now that she can she loves to sleep on her stomach, but I'm concerned if it is safe or not.  If it's not safe I don't know how I am suppose to watch her 24 hours a day when she rolls over in the middle of the night.

he is 6 months yes and can lift his head up and move it around by himself so i think i will just leave him be he is fine and has slept for an hour with no disturbance when he normaly only goes 45 mins.  checked on him just after i put other kids to bed at 9.15 and he was fine.

thanks for the advice

My dr told me that once they get to be 4 or 5 months old and you notice that they rolled over to their stomach to not move them.  She did recommend a sleep positioner (which I use) and that should reduce the amount of rollovers.  My DS is only 9 weeks but is starting to try to roll on his stomach during sleep so I am making his sleep positioners a bit tighter so he does not have much room to roll on his belly.

Wow, my LO just started sleeping on his tummy this weekend.  Usually I just put him on his side (to prevent flat head) to sleep but during on of his naps, he rolled on to his tummy and slept fine.  He's continued to do this for the past couple of days, so I'm glad to have read this thread.  I'm not so worried about this as much.
Thanks!!!   :)

harrison slept from 6.30 till 9.40 then till 11.pm then from 11 till 4.20 all on his tummy.  had a fight on my hands at 4.20 after his feed it took an hour to get him back to sleep and he only slept for 20 more mins but by then it was aftre 6am so DH got him up and i had a nap.

so looks like tummy sleep works for my little bubs

my lo has been a tummy sleeper for a couple of months now too. scared the hell out of me when i first noticed it, as he was sleeping face down in the mattress, and i was really glad i hadn't weaned him from his dummy. but he did eventually learn to put his head to the side, so i don't worry now. as stacy says, so long as they can turn their heads, they should be fine.

Am so glad I read this thread as I was getting worried about my 5 month old DH who has become a tummy sleeper too. I put her on her back but she always rolls onto her side and then her tummy.  I have flipped her back onto her back a couple of times without her waking up but you can't watch them all night! Is it safe for them to sleep this way all night? According to my own mother, thats how we all used to sleep from very early on.

Thanks
Shilpa

i'm pretty sure aidan sleeps on his tum all night long and he's fine. as you say, you can't watch them all night long, and once they can roll over of their own accord, it's pretty much out of your hands anyway. when aidan first started doing it, i just told myself that i had done everything i could to keep him safe and the rest was up to him - i think that's all you can do, really  :)

Our doctor told us, if they roll themselves it is fine and let them be. Still put them on back or side and what they do later themselves is ok.
