14mo - how much milk?
« on: May 18, 2006, 11:54:42 am »
right now lo drinks 18oz of milk/day.  that's 6oz after every meal.

does this seem like a lot to you?  he usually also eats cheese and yoghurt every day.  i give him water with his meals and snacks.

WOW  :o
Be greatful that LO likes milk, DS only drank one bottle (8oz) at naptime.
Then at 18mth did not drink milk at all, but ate minigo & cheese.
Now at 3.5yrs he will only drink flavoured milk (choc, strawb) but I only put half the recommended amount of syrup in.
So don't worry, if LO is liking milk AND eating veggies, meats & grains you are doing a great job.  ;D

olivia is 15 mo tomorrow and drinks between 13-18oz each day. she definitely still has her pre nap bottle (5 oz) and before bed one (8oz) and recently started to drop her morning one (post breakfast 5 oz) but on days she asks for it i give it to her (she goes to the kitchen and begs for milk  ;D sometimes a snack will do and other times she downs the 5 oz and other times she wants it but only drinks 1-2 oz)

she also eats yogurt but refuses cheese. she drinks water with meals

Somewhere between 16-24 oz is what's recommended (including other dairy like yogurt and cheese) so it looks like he's doing great!

that's reassuring, thank you.  i was getting a little bit unsure of myself after reading all of the threads about dropping bottles.  ds just loves his milk.  if i didn't limit it to 18oz/day, he would just keep drinking until he bursts.  he actually whines a bit when he gets to the end of the bottle - we asked our pedi about it and she said it just means that he likes it a lot but is getting more than enough.

Hi. My dd just turned 14 months on Monday. She drinks between 16-20oz of milk per day. She also loves her milk. We taught her the sign for milk and she lets us know when she wants some. Her usual routine is 8oz in a sippy in the morning and 8oz at bedtime in a bottle. The other 4 oz is only if she asks for more milk during the day and then we give it in a sippy.
