Please advise if you can!!
« on: May 19, 2006, 19:36:39 pm »
I am really confused  ??? Hattie started on solids @ 4 months because we were advised by our gp because she suffers from reflux. She was only havibg small amounts until may 1st when she got an awful dose of gastro.
we were told to take her off all milk products and feed her sugar water until the vomiting and diarrhoea stopped. By the fourth day I felt mean so had an idea to look at all the baby jars and find ones with no added milk. i gave her a jar for breakfast to try her and she ate the whole thing!!!! and continued eating 5 jars a day until it stopped. since then she has had a bottle first thing usually 7oz then an hour later a jar of breakfast then she has her dinner usually around 2 of my own puree of veg followed by my own fruit puree with petit filous and then roughly the same again around 6 for dinner and a 9oz bottle after her bath and bed around 9.30.
She hascompletely gone off her bottle and won't take it in the afternoon. :-\
What would you do? cause i'm worried about her milk intake?
Thanks.

I've only heard these suggestions, never done them, but they might help.

Add formula to cereal or meals that way they are still getting the iron needed.  Give her a sippy cup at meals with formula.  If she doesn't yet use a sippy cup, you could have her bottle available at each meal??

sorry I'm not much help, just passing on some info from others. ???

my dd did exactly the same at that age as well. she refused to take a bottle and wanted solids instead. the only advice i can give is the same.try to incorporate her milk with her solids ie put milk in her cereal, sauces etc

Warning - this happened a long time ago when advice was different.....
My sis had horrendous reflux & was constantly sick.  My Mam was advised to get her on cows milk at 6 months with supplements (probably not available these days as this is contrary to what they would do now).  She was also weaned early (even for those days) & Mam & Gran used to give her a lot of mashed potato in her meals - made with lots of milk to cream them!  I remember mam & Dad having battles with her to drink milk. So use it to 'cream' pureed food.

Thanks a million for your replies!!I've tried all weekend to get her to take more but to no avail. She's having her 6 month jabs this week so I'll get back on to our Gp. Jo, it sounds like your poor mum had it rough.By any chance is your family Irish??? cause only over here do they refer to mum as mam!! Thanks again.
