Baby waking earlier and earlier??
« on: May 20, 2006, 02:18:56 am »
Hi there.  My 4 month old was always such an awesome sleeper, but now she is waking up earlier and earlier in the morning.  She use to be like clockwork and wake up at 8am, put down at 8:30pm, but then she started waking at 7:30am and now it is 7am, sometimes 6:30am.  Nothing else in her routine has changed.  Here is what it looks like.

8:00am (even if she wakes at 7am or not)::  E: 6oz

10:00am ::  S 2hrs

12:00pm  (though she has started waking now at 11:30am) :: E  6.5oz

2:00pm :: S  2hrs

4:00pm :: E  6oz

6:00pm  :: S  45min

Fed (7oz), bathed, and in bed by 8:30pm

10:30pm  ::  DF 6oz     I've tried making the dreamfeed later, tried even at 12am, but she still wakes up early.  Before doing the dreamfeed, about 1.5months ago, she was always able to sleep 9.5 hours straight no matter what.  At 6 weeks she was sleeping 8 hours a night and it kept increasing.   Is it just too much sleep and she doesn't need the 11.5 hours total that the schedule says she needs from 8:30pm to 8:00am??  She use to sleep until 8am, sometimes I even had to wake her.  Not anymore though.

maybe your df is too late?  could try moving it back to 10pm & see if that helps.  i also think the 5am feed is causing some problems too...

She doesn't get a 5am feed.   :)

So making the dreamfeed earlier won't make her wake up earlier??

uh oh... now i wonder whose posts i was mixing up?!  :-[ :P

as far as moving df sooner - probably won't make her wake earlier.  believe it or not - it may help her sleep longer, since you aren't disturbing her deep sleep as much.  this is also the time when anywhere between 10-12 hours at night begins to be normal.

also, she's 4 months (now i KNOW i was confusing you with someone - was thinking she was 6-7 months), which means there can typically be some nighttime craziness.  usually it's developmentally related, and you really just ride her out.  sticking to her basic routine (which looks great) as best you can will help you do that.

Awesome, thanks!  I'll try doing the dreamfeed earlier tonight and see what happens.  Thanks again!

Well, I tried doing the DF at 10pm instead of 10:30pm.  Sat morn she woke up at 6am again, but after half of an hour I was able to put her back to sleep and then woke at 8am. Sun morn she woke up at 7am and couldn't go back to sleep, she was doing her hunger cry after 20min so I fed her. Then Mon morn she woke again at 7am and feed 20min later.  Then this morning she woke at 5am.  I tried shush/pat, which calmed her down for about 20min, then she started to really fuss and do her hunger cry. Thinking maybe she was just really wet I changed her diaper and tried shush/pat again for 10min.  That didn't work. She kept doing her hunger cry, so I fed her and she took 5oz.  Right afterwards she was so tired I put her down and she was out like a light.

So because I think this may have more to do with feedings I was wondering if this could be moved to the Bottle Feeding Forum in hopes of getting some advice.  Thanks!   :)
