Waking on the hour crying
« on: May 22, 2006, 02:15:06 am »
Hi there

For the last week my DD has had a cold which she is just about over. Thank godness as i was so use to sleeping through to at least 5:30am. I know she is on the mend as saturday night she slept through and woke at 6:30am however last night we put her to bed at 7pm with no fussing, however she then woke on the hour crying out in her sleep. I tried to leave her but it does escalate. i thought maybe it was teething (as we think this is going on in the background) but the panadol did nothing and she continued to cry on the hour until i held her all night which she still let out cries but did manage to stay asleep.

Any suggestions or advise on how to deal with this type of crying???

it sounds as if your lo is overtired and/or overstimulated before bed, as this kind of crying usually shows that. how old is your lo? could you post your routine?

Hi there

Ruby is 6.5 months

Her routine is as follows:

7 wake and bottle (6 ozs)
8 brekkie (fruit and cereal)
9.30 sleep (45-1.5 hours)
11.30 bottle (6 oz)
1.00 lunch (veggies)
1.30 sleep (hopefully 2 hrs if only 45 min in morning she sometimes wakes very happy after 45 min so i dont resettle)
3.30 bottle (6 oz)
5.00 dinner (veggies and meat)
possible cat nap if only 45 min sleeps
6.45 bottle (7-8 ozs)
7 bed
10.30 DF (she has cut to 3ozs)

No night feeds.

Hope this is enough info...

i would try stretching out the A time before the second nap - if lo is sleeping the full 1.5hrs for the first nap then A time is only 2.5 hrs which if extended a bit may help with not having a catnap in the evening. it does seem your lo may be ready to drop that catnap altogether (tracy suggests 6-8 months). rather than give a catnap, you may opt for an earlier bedtime on the days lo needs it.

you say that there are no other night wakings at this time? after the last nap could lo be overstimulated in the A time??
