Lots of small meals or one big one?
« on: May 22, 2006, 15:32:26 pm »
Hi

I have just started weaning my 6 month old mix fed DD.  So far she is having 'lunch' about an hour after her 10:30/11am feed.  She's only taking one teaspoon of babyrice made up with 1 tablespoon of formula and one tablespoon of fruit/veg but has been finishing this for a few days so I think she's ready for a bit more.

I'm unsure now whether to keep increasing the size of this meal, or whether the next stage should be to start another meal, and if so, which is best, breakfast or tea?

Thanks  :)

Really, either way is fine, just keep an eye on her nursing and formula intake. Those should still be her main source of nutrition for several more months. If you're ready for it, you might add another meal instead of giving her one big one. Babies still have tiny tummies, and it's easy for them to eat too much when solids are new and get an upset tummy. Plus, solids feel different in their tummies, so they don't always realize when they're full or know how to tell you. Whichever meal you'd like to start next is up to you...it really doesn't matter, as long as you keep introducing new foods earlier in the day to watch for reactions. Good luck!

Thanks for that  :)  I think for now I'll start making it slightly bigger and maybe after a week we'll start another meal.
