Drinking water on holiday
« on: May 31, 2006, 20:29:21 pm »
Hi everyone,
We are going on holiday on Sunday and my HV has suggested I give my 9 week old little boy drinks of cooled boiled water throughout the day to prevent dehydration. How much does he need and when? I am concerned about him filling his tum up on water so not wanting to take milk, or would water pass through him that quickly that the full feeling wouldn't last long? If anyone has any suggestions I'd be really grateful.
Sally

Yes, if he drinks too much water he will not want his milk. I am assuming you feed every 3 hours? If so I would offer a few ounces of water before naps and when you may be out and about in the heat. A few ounces at a time shouldn't hurt his milk intake. Have fun on your Holiday!

I agree - I would just offer him a few sips here and there when you are out and about - I found that DS was not very fond of water at first and would only take a few sips just to quench his thirst.

Have a great time on your hols.
