not sure if I'm feeding too much or is a routine problem
« on: June 03, 2006, 20:43:01 pm »
I really don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I have to do it somewhere.

Ok, I started giving my DS two solid meals a day for the last week. Also, I'm breastfeeding him twice a day and giving him 3 bottles of formula a day, including the DF. The problem we're having is that he's spitting up A LOT after his lunch or after the 3 pm feed and his tummy rumbles all this time. I'm afraid I'm feeding him TOO much!!!! Am I giving him too many ounces of formula? Should I stop the DF or change the times of the feeds??

We're on a 4 hr EASY and it looks like this:
7am - breastfeed (about 15 mins)
ACTIVITY
9-9:30 breakfast (porridge with fruit)
NAP
11am - bottle 6 oz
ACTIVITY
1-1:30pm lunch (veggies and fruit for dessert)
NAP
3pm - bottle 6 oz
ACTIVITY - sometimes he will have a catnap, but not everyday.
7pm - breast (about 15 mins)
BED
11pm - DF bottle 6 oz

Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi Mena

Is Paul spitting up milk or food? To be honest it is difficult for me to say if he is getting too much formula, because I can't tell what his total milk consumption is in a day.

He does seem to be getting feed every 2hours  :-\  have you tried giving him solids 60 mins after his milk feeds, so you routine is like this and he is not sleeping on a full tummy;

7am - breastfeed (about 15 mins)
ACTIVITY
8 breakfast (porridge with fruit)
ACTIVITY
NAP
11am - bottle 6 oz
ACTIVITY
1200 lunch (veggies and fruit for dessert)
ACTIVITY
NAP
3pm - bottle 6 oz
ACTIVITY - sometimes he will have a catnap, but not everyday.
7pm - breast (about 15 mins)
BED
11pm - DF bottle 6 oz

The catnap is the next thing to go, then at around 7months the DF will start to interfere with his daytime food so that was need to be gradually stopped as well see here --> https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=54662.0

Thanks for that, Lauren.

I tried your suggestion yesterday and today, and it worked very well. He didn't spit up as much or at all, and had two good naps as well  ;D

I'm going to introduce a third meal (dinner) tomorrow, after his 3/4 pm bottle. See how that one goes. My goal is to eliminate the dreamfeed soon-ish, but just after the three meals are well established. Will ask his doc on thursday anyway.

Cheers!

New question re DF
« Reply #4 on: June 07, 2006, 17:55:41 pm »
Lauren, I have a question regarding the DF.

You said that it will start interfering with his daytime food. How do I recognize this trend? He didn't eat great today or yesterday, so I'm actually thinking in starting to eliminate the DF soon and try to give him more solids and milk during the day.

Thanks

Mena

I think it starts to affect the first feed, because he isn't hungry enough for it - because of the dreamfeed.
