transitioning from 1 formula to another
« on: June 07, 2006, 14:18:30 pm »
My daughter has been on Similac Alimentum (the hypoallergenic soy based one) due to an allergy for about 2 mos.  The dr. said i could start her on the Isomil (still soybased just not predigested--i think??)   My question is...to transition her should i just go from one to the other or mix them?  My dr. said something about 1 oz to 1 oz...but i'm wondering what other moms have done?  will changing her cold turkey be disasterous or will mixing them be weird for her belly?   :P
Thanks  :)

Yeah, mix them for sure.  I had to do that. Should say on the can actually, I know on mine it did, it explained on the inside of the label how to switch over a few days.  Something along the lines of one day if they drink 6oz do 1oz new formula and 5oz of old formual, next day 2oz of new formula and 4 oz of old formula, etc.

We switched formulas a lot between 3MO and 4MO.  I always did it cold turkey (bad mommy!) but DD was constipated and the switch always cleaned her out!  Sorry TMI.  It probably gave her a bit of a tummy ache, but she didn't mind the flavor difference and took right to the new stuff.  If I were to change now (7.5MO), I'm sure I would have to do a gradual transition.
