Using Plastic Feeding Bowls. Is it ok?
« on: June 09, 2006, 08:29:51 am »
Hi There,

DD is 11m and for the last 2-3 months I have been making her food in bulk, putting it into small plastic bowls with lids and freezing it. It is starting to dawn on me that it may not be that healthy for her to eat food from plastic as the chemicals in the plastic leach out into the food. Has anyone heard anything about this and whether it is ok to use plastic containers for babies food? Am I just being paranoid?!

Thanks

Claire

I'm not too sure, but I do err on the side of caution to some degree even though it may be ott. I will store food in plastic containers in the freezer, but always defrost in a glass or ceramic bowl and don't microwave plastic at all even if it says it is microwave safe. I will serve fresh food in plastic no problems though.

i am guilty of being on the other end of the spectrum and used loads of those plastic pots with lids for the girls food and defrost/microwave int he plastic pots and even have served from them - never thought there was anythign wrong with it...

not entirely sure whether plastic bowls are a hazzard but i'd personally avoid a microwave when dealing with baby's food  :o

If you use the plastic pots especially made for feeding LOs such as the ones I have bought from Tesco and Morrisons then you will be safe. The ones I have are freezer and microwave safe and were about £1.99 for 6 and are reusable.

Same here; I make batches of food and then freeze them in plastic boxes; defrost them in the fridge or in the microwave and then put it into her feeding bowls. As the containers are reusable and freezer and microwave safe I never saw a problem with it.

Hello.

I don't think you are being paranoid.  I decided to do a search on plastic before I asked the same question.

I went to a speaker at my dr. office and have pretty much sworn off of plastic.

I am not keen on buying the baby food in the plastic containers.
