Drinking Too Fast???
« on: June 30, 2006, 16:55:14 pm »
Grace use to take forever to eat.  Now she drinks her bottle in about 5-10 minutes.  Sometimes she even drinks the entire thing so fast that I don't have a chance to burp her.  Also, If I am able to get a burp she often won't take anymore so I sometimes allow her to just drink until l she stops on her own.

Is she drinking too fast (she has acid reflux...don't know if that makes a difference)?

Should I burp her more frequently?

Could this be causing her to spit up more?

Thanks.
Melissa

hi
not sure how old your LO is but as they get older they do become more efficient feeding. My DD used to take FOREVER to drink her btls when she was younger.
Not sure about the acid reflux (don't know much about it) but my DD used to spit up alot until she was on solids

Hi There,No words to help but my dd is 17 weeks and she's just the same at the moment ( she has got reflux and been quite bad).
The other day she nearly drank the whole bottle like yours and burping is a problem as well,
Hope someone can answer!

My 6 month old does the same thing. He would take forever on a number 2 nipple and as soon as I switched to the number 3 he consumes it with in 7 to 10 minutes and I do not have a chance to burp him as well. I just get one big burp at the end. He also has reflux and we are on Enfamil AR, which is thicker, so he only sometimes spits up. But anyway, being that yours is only 2 months old, I would try to burp in the middle of the fed. Is she on any medicine for the reflux? If so, maybe she has finally started to help with the pain and is able to drink better!

My ds was on Axid also and it did not help him at all with his reflux. He is really weight sensitive and we had to always up his dose so we went to Prevacid, a PPI drug, and it has been great! He is now an angel and is not in any pain. I hope that the Axid works for you.

We are switching to Previcid once we run out of Axid.

What type of bottles are you using?  Our dd also has reflux and we use Dr. Brown bottles with a premie nipple.  She is now 12 wks and this seems to work the best.  If she drinks too fast she spits up more.  Prevacid is also working great for us.   ;D

We are using Avent bottle with the number 3 nipple.

Actually things are going pretty well.  She still drinks pretty fast but I think she is just an efficient drinker and now that her reflux is doing better she is back to her old self again.

She is still spitting up but she is definitely not in pain like she was so I think we are doing ok.

Thanks for all of your advice and wisdom.
