Constipation
« on: July 04, 2006, 14:54:29 pm »
I know it is rare in a BF baby but my daughter has it!! She is in great pain with cramps and has passed a small formed poo which took alot of effort.

I think because it was so hot here yesterday she fed every 2 hours but also had gaviscon as she has reflux and had more than she normally would so it has constipated her, i have tried to give her some water but she won't take a bottle so very difficult to syringe it in !!

Any other ideas?

So sorry for your lo.

You can try massage... circles around her belly button in a clockwise direction starting close to her belly button and moving outward.  Try doing that at every diaper change (I know it gets things moving, as my dd1 would pass gas every time I do that... still does  ::) )

I would not recommend giving anything extra unless you talk to your doctor.  Please call your peditrician, even if it means calling the after hours number if you are that concerned.

I know my baby Brandon suffered this and I was told by my peditrition that one spoon of prune juice in their milk because my baby was formula fed or as an alternative put two teaspoons in their solids three times a day or until you see that the constipation is improving. I found this was the best way for my baby. I don't know whether you are still having problems thought this might help.
