Hypoallergenic formula-Nutramigen

 Anyone else using this formula or a similar one ?

 DD-7weeks-has a milk/soy allergy and I'm thinking of starting her on this formula.

 Originally I just wanted to supplement but now I'm thinking of giving up BF because I don't think I want to worry about everything I put in my mouth. :-\

 Just wondering how it worked out for someone else. Any input would be appreciated

My dd has a lactose allergy, but before we new that we tried her on nutrimegen and she hated it she refused to drink her bottles.  This was a surprise considering she would usually down each one.  So i tried a little and it tastes as it smells like dog food it was discusting.  Are you sure she has a milk and soy allergy because that is what we thought with our dd and it turned out to be lactose intolerance which is extremmly common in babies (ped said so) and we have her on enfamils lactose free formula and shes great.  good luck.

gassy, could not get a burp out of her, after a while ahe would eventually toot it out, with really load hurtful sounding toots, crying in pain, could not sleep without crying.  tight tummy, extremly cranky was not happy ever, loose stools.  those are the ones that I remember .  I hope that helps.  she also spit up quite a bit.  Oh she was hungry after tooting and relieving her gas pains, I guess making room for more formula.

I used it with ds when he was a baby.  He had most of those symptons, plus reflux, plus screaming 24/7 and blood in stool, diahrea.  It helped, but it took about 4 days.  I understand about the bf thing.  Dd is 5.5 weeks and I'm going to start weaning next week.  I hate not knowing if she's really hungry or not, wants to comfort nurse, watch everything I eat and drink, etc.  I hope she doesn't have the formula problems ds had.

Hi~
My dd has a milk/soy protein allergy and developed acid reflux as a result.  I breastfed her until she was 3 1/2 months and gave up by doctors advice.  She is on Nutramigen Ready to Feed (we were on the powder but she has a corn intolerance as well and the Ready to Feed has lower levels of corn syrup).  There is a great forum on here for milk/soy allergies and the first few posts give you tons of info on what to eat...I found it too late! 
I don't mean to get on a soap box here but please make sure stopping breast feeding is what you want to do.  I regretted my decision so much that a month after stopping, I tried to relactate but it did not work for me as I was only producing 1 oz per pumping session after 7 weeks of pumping every 2 hours during the day and 3 at night.  There are so many benefits to breast feeding infants with these allergies...just gather all the information you can before you stop.  I wish I found this website and gathered info from other sites before I gave up.  Believe me, I know its so frustrating!  It is hard to give a baby Nutramigen though...it smells nasty and tastes even worse...so bitter!  And it costs an arm and a leg...we are paying $9 per day now and it will continue to rise.  And my daughter stopped eating 2 months ago...she refused and she finally started eating again 2 weeks ago when we switched to the ready to feed.  Please feel free to message me if you have any questions.  Good luck with your decision.

We supplemented with Nutramigen about once a day while breastfeeding.  Ds is MSPI and had blood and mucus in his stools.  He screamed at bottles of all other formulas.  The price wasn't a problem because we continued breastfeeding until 11 1/2 months.  Also, the doctor had cases of samples to give us.  Now, it's pretty expensive, but ds is tolerating a little dairy in his diet, so we may be off it within a few months.  Yes, it smells nasty, but ds LOVES it.

Cost wise, it's cheaper on E-bay.  Also make sure to register at the formula site.  They send checks to buy formula with  We can find the more "exotic" formulas at one of the kids consignment stores.  We tried Nutramigen, dd refused it.  Now on Gentlease, low lactose formula. Trying a slow wean to milk.

DS was on Nutramigen because of a family history of allergies.  He was also extremely gassy.  It is nasty stuff but DS loved it.  First two months we gave alternating bottles of Nutramigen and breastmilk (didn't mix them in the bottles) and he didn't seem to care between the two.  We tried to switch him to Good Start at 9 mos and he refused.  We also had a hard time getting him on cow's milk.

My dd had an extremely tough first four weeks (bottle feeding reg form), she ended up w/ blood in her stool indicating an allergy.  Dr switched us to alimentum which is the similiac version of nutramigen.  It worked wonders!  In fact we just tried to switch her back to reg and she got constipated so we put her right back on the alimentum.  Good luck, as long as you prepare yourself for some adjustment period w/ it your lo should be just fine.  :)
