4.5 Months, things have changed! Teething, Growth Spurt?
« on: July 16, 2006, 00:41:14 am »
Can anyone help me here?  My lo is 4.5 months old.  In the last few nights he has been waking 1-3 times per night needing to feed.  Initially I thought it was a growth spurt, but have noticed that he is fine lasting 4 hrs between feedings in the day. I did a yield (I breastfeed) and I am still producing about 7-8oz per feeding.  He seems to be a little bit more cranky and is having a harder time settling down for naps and bedtime. He has also changed his tired cues, so I am a little lost trying to figure out when I should start the wind down process... I kind of watch the clock for that.  Any suggestions?  I don't see any teeth coming through.

Thanks,

Jodi

Oh, I also forgot to mention, he has been waking for his dreamfeed (normally I feed him at 10pm), anywhere from 9 to 9:30 now...weird!

Hi Jodi,

For a 4.5 mo old, it's totally normal for him to need at least one feed or as many as three per night - even if he hadn't been doing that before. Many LOs also have a big growth spurt at 4 months, so do you think it's possible that he's having that now, a bit late?

Jessica,

He could very well be.  He has stopped waking so much and now just wakes once... it's weird though, I will feed him at 9:30 (when he actually wakes up for his df), then he will wake up as soon as 1 or 2am!  Then he is fine until 7am when I feed him.  Is it normal for him to want to eat that close together?

Thanks!

Every LO is different! If he takes that DF and then eats again at 1 or 2 but then goes until 7 then go with it. If it's not broken, don't fix it!
