I have been using the Playtex Drop In liner bottles. I did notice with my LO; he wouldn't take a nipple that was short. He prefered the long ones; he just chewed on the shorter ones.

Hi I'm using a brand called MAM. The teat is sort of squashed!
So far so good, I'm feeding in morning & then giving bottles of EBM for the other feeds. Have to say I'm getting a bit fed up of expressing!

Hi Blod
You've given me inspiration. I've only been giving my LO 1 BF a day now for the last 3 days. She is on solids but I've stopped those to try and get her to take the bottle. She's 6 months. Did you keep your LO on the same solids as normal when you stopped BF? My LO has taken 3-4 oz from a bottle every day now, but only EBM and only in the morning. She then refuses all other bottles. Its like she holds out until I get home, but I'm reluctant to stop the evening feed because she's already losing weight. I'm getting really disheartened by the whole thing, but need to keep going.
Any advice?

I took some advice from Birmingham Childrens Hospital who recommended I stop BFing completely but continue with solids. She had her last BF on Friday night and it's now Sunday morning. We seem to be going backwards as she's now not taking anything from the bottle. Sometimes she just chews the teat, but mostly she screams when the bottle goes in her mouth. I'm now 5 days into the whole breast-to-bottle experience. I don't want to give up as I've been resenting BFing for some time now and really want to stop, but I'm worried about my LO. Anyone else gone this long? Help/advice/support really needed here  :'(
Thanks

gorgelocks - hang in there. I was at the point on resenting BF and I so desperatly just wanted my lo to take a bottle. I just continued feeding him solids as normal and refused to give him anything but a bottle for milk. I started off with breast milk and then mixed EBM and formula together until it was all formula. I didn't go back to BF at all but I have read that you're not supposed to start BF again until they for sure take the bottle, which could be up to 4 days.

blod - I lasted about a week of expressing until I had enough. I coudn't keep up and I just wanted to be done. I dried up in 2 weeks.

Thanks Carters Mom

:'(It's now 4 days since I stopped BFing and still seem no closer to getting her to take it. I don't intend to BF again, but will, of course, if this goes on much longer and her health is at risk. I'm not sure how much more I can take though. My LO seems OK in herself but a bit agitated and not going down so well for her naps. She now takes the teat in her mouth without crying most of the time, but just chews on it and spits out any milk that goes in her mouth even though its EBM.

Hoping for a breakthrough soon  :'(

At long last we had a breakthrough ;D. She took 5 oz EBM yesterday evening and has taken more today. She seems fine with the EBM, but turns her nose up at formula. Any suggestions to get her to take it? I've tried 2 different types and was thinking of mixing EBM with forumula so she gets more used to the taste. Has that worked for anyone? My milk is drying up and there'll be none left soon!
Thanks for all your support

That is fantastic news I am so pleased that she has started taking a bottle with EBM.

With regards to the formula, I would suggest mixing the formula with your BM, and once your lo starts getting used to the taste you can start adding more formula and less BM.

Sorry for the delay in replying, I was on holiday.

Good luck, keep us posted on how you get on.

yes mixing EBM and formula worked for me too. I started with just adding  1 oz. of formula and then increased it. It just took a few days and then it was full formula.

CONGRATS !!!! good job.

I tried that, but once there was too much formula in it she got sick. We've now tried 2 different types of formula but both made her vomit up the whole feed within 40 mins of taking it. We took her to the doctor who recommended trying differnent formulas so we're now trying to find ones she likes that dont make her sick. This whole saga has been going on nearly 2 weeks now. I'm really hoping for a solution soon...

Eleanor went to her stay over night at her grandma's on Saturday for the first time and she had formula the whole time, now I was totally BF her before this and she use to wake at night every couple of hours she's now 10months old.  While at Grandma's she slept from 10pm till 5am had another bottle and slept till 9am, I was shocked :o though I knew formula filled them up for longer.

So I decided to continue with the formula when she came home as she has three teeth now and was biting me a fair bit lol so far not many problems been sick once and as I still am producing breast milk she can smell it and when she's had her bottle I rock her to sleep but she tries to feed off my breast as this has been how she has gone to sleep allways.  This means getting my partner to get her to sleep at the moment.

Thing is I BF on demand and now she's on formula I'm not allways sure when she wants her milk, I seem to be making bottles thinking she's hungry and then she only drinks a bit so I have to chuck it away.

Can anyone tell me who has a baby of the same sort of age when and how much formula their baby has I would be most greatful just so I can have an idea. Obviously a feed first thing when she wakes and last thing at night but what about during the day :-\
Thanks :)

At 10 months my DS was on 2 bottles a day, but most lo's are on bottles 3 times a day - some even 4.

If you were thinking of 3 bottles a day you could do something like this.  Our bottles were always 7-8oz per bottle, your lo may take more or less.

Morning - Bottle then breakfast

2:30pm ish - Bottle

6:45 - 7:00 - Bottle.

My DD is 7.5 months old and I have to go back to work BTW her 9 and 10 month.  I have tried weaning her before but got frustrated and stopped she is a touchy child so everything is a performance.  All of these posts have given me a new zeal to wean her again.  So that she can be versatile and take formula or breastfeed.  If my husband is on board I will start tomorrow.  I know it will be a challenge but I finally feel ready...Thanks I will keep you updated.  The whole reason I came on the baby whisperer site is to seek out advice on weaning.
