« on: August 10, 2006, 11:54:19 am »
I am not sure when to introduce eggs and how as i have read that you can give hard boiled egg yolks up till 9 months then after that you can give the whites as well.  Any advice???

Here in the US we are not supposed to give egg whites until after 12 mo. The white is the part that's an allergen, not the yolk. I scramble yolk for my DS for breakfast and he LOVES it!

My HV advised me the whole egg can be used from 6mo onwards but i remembered reading about reactions so i followed my instincts and to be on the safe side i didnt give my LOs any part of an egg untill 12mo

My DD is 7.5 months and has had eggs several times. Infact she had scrambled eggs with riccota for lunch today  :)

I think it's the same with all foods, if you have any history of allergies in your family you should avoid them until your lo is over 12 months. If not I don't see the problem

Thanks for your opinions. much appreciated, I think I will try egg yoke first and maybe wait with the egg white.

Don't want to worry anyone on the egg yolk thing but my middle DD has an egg yolk allergy. She can eat the whites until they come out of her ears but if she has any yolk then she still projectile vomits, bad tummy pains, redness on her face etc at 13 years old.  Just remember to watch for reactions even with egg yolk.

I was just going to mention that fact.  It's less common, but possible to be allergic to egg yolks.

Ummm...I've given DD scrambled eggs for a few weeks now.  Not a lot mind you, but maybe once a week?  She's 9.5MO.  Can you ask your HV or pediatrician what they recommend?

At 6 months our HV gave us the go ahead to give eggs - he went home and had scrambled eggs that day.

I also did this, and he projectile vomited them back up and went red.  I have an appointment with a pediatrician on Tuesday, only waited 4.5months ::) I have since done egg tests and there has been no redness this time.
