Dairy Guidelines
« on: August 11, 2006, 17:58:13 pm »
Yesterday at the Ped's office one of the questions they asked was if ds was getting between 24 and 36 ounces of dairy a day.  He is 2 years old.  I was under the impression that 16 to 24 was the optimal amount?  Did this change or is it just different after they turn 2?

24-36 ounces? Wow! I've never heard that guideline. Like you said, I've only heard of 16-24 oz. I know if my kid got 36 oz of dairy per day, he'd be too full to eat anything else!

Thats exctly what I was thinking, if ds had 36 ounces of dairy he would not eat.  I wonder why they said 24-36?

I have a good friend who is a pediatric resident, and she said no more than 16 oz. of cow's milk in a day, allowing for a few servings of other dairy products.  24-36 oz?  I'm lucky if DD drinks 6 oz of cow's milk and has 2-3 oz of yogurt and an oz of cheese in one day!
