Ready for just one nap???
« on: August 13, 2006, 21:39:11 pm »
Grrr...getting a little frustrated & I'm thinking maybe it's time to go to one nap? I'm not quite sure - tell me what you all think...

my lo wakes up at 6am & has been for awhile now - he had been taking a nap around 830-900 but recently he is able to wait until around 930 & will only take 45m -1 hr (before they were 1.5 to 2 hr).  He also had been taking a nap in the afternoon around 1pm for about 1.5 hr - but the past few days - he will not take his afternoon nap & then gets extremely cranky & we end up barely getting him to stay awake until 630pm (he had been going to bed around 7pm).  I've tried to wait out his morning nap to try & just get him to take one long nap - but if he doesn't get a nap by 930 he is EXTREMELY tired & cranky...so I'm not quite sure what to do...he's 10 months old tommorrow - if that helps!

TIA for your suggestions!
Brandi

IMO your LO is too young for one nap and would likely only get overtired. Can you post his overall routine and we'll see what we can figure out for you? It will likely be a combination of one short nap and one longer one...

Thanks you guys...sometimes I think I try to find the complicated answer when there is an easy one right in front of me :) :) :) Also, it's become apparent today he's teething - which kindof screws everything up!

Thanks!!

Okay...I thought it was a fluke but, looking back at the last 3 days...he's taken his am nap (pretty easily, I guess) anywhere from 830-930 which lasts about 45-1hour and the afternoon he hasn't been taking until 3 or 330 - I can't get him to take it any earlier...then he either sleeps for only an hour and is extremely cranky or sleeps for 2 hours, wakes up at 5 & doesn't want to go to bed at 7-730...his normal bedtime.  No matter what time he goes to bed he wakes up at 6am...so I'm hesitant to move him later because then he'll definitely be overtired...now I'm really confused as to what to do.  I guess I should just go with the flow...here's my schedule if you wouldn't mind looking it over & giving me your thoughts -

6am - wake up
630 - bottle (4-6 oz)
730/800 - breakfast (really never that hungry here)
830/930 - little more bottle (4 oz) -trying to get him to eat more bfast in am & cut out this bottle, but gets bored w/ food in am
              1st nap (1 hour apprx)
1000 - little snack
1200 - lunch
130/200 - bottle #3
300/330 - nap #2 (ugh...horrible trying to put him down lately)
630/700 - bath
700/730 - bottle/bed

thanks again!!!

At his age, with a 6am wake, I'd try for first nap from 8:45-9:45 and then second nap from 1-3 and bedtime at 7.

Thanks again...I'll keep trying to get him to go at 1 - which is around when he was napping before...I don't know why he wont nap before 3pm now...it really messes everything up! :P I think I'll try and be patient with him for a few days & if it doesn't work I think I'll shorten his am nap so hopefully, he gets tired before 3! Little bugger!!!

Ugh! What's going on with this little guy!!!

Problem is getting worse - now he is waking up at 4:45/5am, taking one nap at 8am (in the car is the ONLY WAY I can get him to do this) and THAT IS IT! And, he won't go to bed before 7:30....okay - not only am I completely lost on how to work his schedule of eating around this - I'm exhausted (9 wks pregnant) & I feel like throwing myself out a window...why is he doing this???

By the way, the nap at 8am is never over 1 hour - usually 45 min/1 hour...

Ugh...thank you!!! I keep having this horrible thought of it being this way when the new baby comes (even though he'll be 1 1/2 by then!) and itI can't even handle that thought!

I'll try & push his nap back & see how it goes...it's like a maze trying to figure out how to get out of these messes!

Thanks again!

Stacy,

I just wanted to say thanks! I don't know if it's a fluke or if it is really going to work, but I pushed his am nap back to 930 & the next two mornings he slept in until 6am...yippee!!
