How do I stop my one year old from going up the stairs!??

Hi my lo takes off for our stairs everytime I put her down! I would put a babygate up in a heartbeat but unfortunately there is no banister and there is not enough wall on the side to really attach a gate. Any ideas!?

Could you barricade the area surrounding the stairs or the doors opening towards the stairs?

I know, I thought about downloading a picture to get some ideas..I will look!
my husband was going to put some wood or something there, but really- thats a bit much.  I could baracade the area with big bins or something but it just seems like a lot of work 

Then I thought, maybe if I let her climb up and down a million times she would get it out of her system- nope didn't work! (she just became more obsessed!)
Isn't there like a mini baby gate out there, not so high??

This is not my house, but a very similar staircase.... see how at the bottom of the stairs there is no space to attach a gate.
Any thoughts?

What about the kind that are on a roller?  You could attach the gate to the wall and maybe attach the other side to hooks?
Or maybe a sheet or something similar?

Ok, thinking hte same thing as Wendy - attach hooks to the wall, and attach gate.  For around the side without a real bannister, you could even use a tie - loop through one portion of hte gate, nad up the stairs....

That way, you could just make the tie as long as needed to get to a working bannister slot.  LO won't be able to get through, but you haven't permanently attached a gate, either.

Although, I do agree with really teaching her how to go up and down....cause that kind of set up won't last for long, and better she knows how to safely navigate stairs, then to slip through and hurt herself!
