4hr easy and short naps
« on: August 30, 2006, 20:48:41 pm »
I just put our little guy on a 4 hour EASY last week - cold turkey and very successful! He is on it like clockwork. Well, he was.
In the last few days he has suddenly been waking halfway through one of his naps (morning or afternoon. Sleeps almost exactly 45 minutes for catnap).
We can 'shush' him and it works about half the time to get him back to sleep. The other half, he is freaking out.
We had tried PU/PD with about 50% success when having some issues last month and chose to stop due to it not always working (sometimes it made it worse) and LO has a touch of silent reflux we don't want to aggravate.
W2S seems to be unlucky too - each time we go in, he is already laying in his crib with eyes open.
Is this a regression?
He just barely makes it 2 hours for A time and does great with eating every 4 hours.

It'll be interesting to see the advice/comments!  I am newly on a 3 1/2 hr EASY, my DD can go 3 1/2 hours between feeds easily, is getting better at staying up a bit longer, but naps are short again and can't resettle!

I think wake-to-sleep is your answer.

W2S seems to be unlucky too - each time we go in, he is already laying in his crib with eyes open.

You need to go in earlier I think. Or better still, don't leave the room at all. I know this sounds crazy, but I always advise people to spend a couple of days staying in the room with the lo when they nap. You get a much better idea of what's going on, and you can jump in when you see things going wrong. For example, you can get the w2s happening much earlier, and so more effectively, and you can also help him through any jolts he may have, if he needs you to. Try these links for info:

Do you think going "cold turkey" may have been too much? I have tried this before with my bub, and he seems to do okay the first few days and then he falls apart. You may want to scale it back a bit and make more gradual changes in time increments of 15 min over 3-4 days.
Just a thought ;)

I don't think it was too much too soon. He seems to do worse with things that are slowly introduced. He has one of those personalitys where once he know about something he is all over it and there is no slowing him down.
He has been waking 45-60minutes into his naps now and has been going back to sleep well. I have to go in and reswaddle him, but at least he goes to sleep. Maybe he'll get used to it? ::)

Good for you :)
My LO used to nap 1.5hr-2hr. After I gone back to work, my LO only takes 45min -1hr15min nap  :(
She wakes up happy though. Any suggestions?
