What to wipe DS face with after eats?
« on: August 31, 2006, 03:33:41 am »
My 8.5 mo. DS seems to have a little rash on his jawline and neck... I presume from all of the solids that end up there at each feeding. I wipe him down with a wet cloth but should I be doing anything else?
Any wisdom would be wonderful!
Thanks.

My friend's LO had the same problem with a rash around his face and it was probably caused from the feedings, her pedi prescribed her some cream for eczema.   You may want to have the rash checked by your pedi.

For us, I always wipe DS's face with a washcloth after he eats.

I also use a warm damp washcloth, but have found that if DS's chin gets a bit sore, Sudocrem works wonders (if it's just irratible).  My friend recommends Avent Magic Cream.  I put it on when he goes to bed and first thing in the morning to act as a barrier cream.

I've started keeping a spare box of diaper wipes at the table (and others around the house!). They make easy wiping cloths and they're made for skin. (We use the Huggies w/o any perfumes.) In the summer when she gets extra-messy b/c she's also sweaty, we'll do baby powder (corn starch, not talc) on her neck and chest when we change her in addition to the diaper area.

I put nappy cream on DS's face when he gets that, works a treat! I also think its from the food altho when DS got it REALLY bad it ended up being ezcma due to lactose intollerance

Lo had a rash that was yeasty. Doctor tole us to use hydrocortisone and lotrimin together. However, I found Burt's Bee's lotion with calendula to be most effective. Can't recommend their products highly enough :)

When dd got that little chin rash a friend told me to try Lansinoh (lanolin) nipple cream (I had a tube from when I was breastfeeding) because it's no problem if they get it in their mouth.  I tried it and it works a treat  ;D  I just wipe a little under her chin before she goes down for her naps and nighttime.
