Is it time to extend A time again??
« on: September 02, 2006, 14:38:34 pm »
DD just turned 5 months old today.  About 3 weeks ago she switched to a 4 hour EASY sleeping 2 hours, 1.5 hours and then a 30-40 minute cat nap and then sleeps from 7pm-6:30isham waking once at 5am to eat, no dream feed.  Naps have been going well but the past few days she has been waking up even when I do w2s.  She is usually pretty happy so I get her up after I try for a few minutes to get her back to sleep and then she gets really tired so I put her back down.  Because she already slept for about 40 minutes or so it is really hard to get her back to sleep and at times I am having to restort to the swing which I don't want to do and even then she doesn't always fall back to sleep which then throws off the entire rest of the day as her next feed time will be when she is tired again.  My question is do you think it's time to start extending A time again???  She starts to get really fussy right before the 2 hour mark and she is rubbing her eyes, etc. so I wasn't sure.

Boy am I glad this site is back on....

Ok, we have extended her A time a bit.  Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't.  It all depends on her last nap, etc.

She is still waking between 30 and 45 minutes and will not go back to sleep during her first nap.  I will let her lie in her crib talking until she starts to get upset and then I will try to give her a paci and she usually just smiles back at me and acts like she is not tired, however once in awhile if I put her in her swing after she has been awake in her crib for 30 minutes to an hour she will fall asleep.  She is also waking during her 2nd nap but it is easier to get her to go to sleep at that time.  W2S isn't working anymore.

It may be time to sit in during a couple of naps again to monitor what is happening.

Any suggestions?

This is her schedule as of late....

She gets up around 6:30/7am....It is hard to tell exactly when she has woken up.

At around 1 hour 50 minute - 2 hours I watch for ques.  I start to bring her to her bed room at around 2 hours to get things ready.  Let her lay in her crib for a few minutes with her turtle.  Then diaper change and song.  At this point I try and sit with her.  It is then that she usually tells me if she is tired or not.  She takes about 1-2 minutes to fall asleep, usually no crying or anything.

This is when she sleep for ~40 minutes.

From here she can stay awake another 2 hours 5 minutes max because of  her previous poor nap and then sleeps ~1.5 hour or so.  She wakes but I usually can get her back but just giving her a paci and walking out.  I try to not let her see me as that may wake her more.

Then she is up for another 2 hours or so....sleeps for 30 minutes and is in bed by 7pm.

I will try to extend her first A time a bit more...keeping things lo key.

Today we were able to help her stay awake almost 2.5 hours and she is still sleeping and it's been just a little over an hour.  I guess she just needed more A time.  She is quite silly like that.  One day out of the blue....usually when she changes months....she just up and needs more A time, etc.  Nothing is ever gradual with her.  ;D

Thanks.
