Refusing breakfast
« on: September 04, 2006, 14:12:46 pm »
My LO is now refusing breakfast!  :'( she is now 8 months.

Has happily been eating 3 meals a day and has 3 or 4 bottles a day depending on her mood but for the last week will not eat her breakfast.

Have tried giving just half her bottle before but she still won't eat it and has the rest of her bottle after refusing the food. I have also tried leaving a longer gap between the bottle and food but she still refuses the food.

Don't want to give solids before the bottle on this feed yet, as milk is still more important than solids but I would like her to go back to 3 meals a day - I am confused as to why this has happened???????

I just wondered if there is any chance she is teething?  I know that when Rachel broke her 3rd and 4th teeth at 8 months she didn't want a spoon anywhere near her first thing in the morning.  By lunchtime she would be more hungry and so happy to eat, but breakfast was a real issue.  to overcome this we started giving her toast and fruit at breakfast, perhaps you could try that?

Thanks for your thoughts, I think she may be teething (top 2 front teeth)?? I'll try finger foods instead of cereal and see if she prefers that. She is definitely more hungry at lunch after not eating breakfast, so maybe it is a teething issue??

Mind you she didn't drink her bottle or eat her breakfast this morning - maybe shes just not a morning person, like her mom  ;D he he!

When teething the can tend to refuse their bottles too, as the sucking motion can be sore on their gums.

Have you tried rubbing a teething gel on her gums before a bottle / food to see if this helps?
