Rolling-should I help or will it come naturally 4mo
« on: September 08, 2006, 01:34:40 am »
Hi,

My dd #2 is 4mo and has lots of time on the floor both on her back and tummy and is showing no signs or rolling yet.  With dd#1 I had all the time in the world and spent a lot of time showing her how and rolling her.  I don't do this with dd#2 and don't know whether I should be or just let her be and she will work it out in her own time.  DD#1 was rolling by this time so I'm not sure.

Thanks,

Bye for now, Amanda

If you are givning LO time tummy/floor time I wouldn't worry.  You can go ahead and get down there and play with her that certainly wont hurt anything, but it won't nesecarily hury things along.  Children develop at different stages and as hard as it not to, we shouldn't compare them.  HTH

Definitely don't worry about it -- my ped told me that they "guidelines" will most likely change soon and that rolling is something they'll expect babies to do much closer to 6 months than 4.  The 4 month guideline was really from when babies used to spend ALL their time on their tummies.  Remember, all babies develop differently (even if they are from the same family!)

I was always worried about Rachels movement development and tried everything to try and help her but in the end she has got there in her own time.  If you want to encourage then by all means do so, but I don't think it will speed anything up as long as you are providing opportunities for the development.

oh and although Rachel didn't roll for movement until 6 months or crawl until 10.5 months and isn't really interested in walking yet - she has 25 words - some babies have different developmental preferences!

I wouldn't worry at all :) My dd could sit up by 4.5mths but didn't roll over until 8mths old!!!! I don't think she saw the point, afterall she could already see everything! On contrast her friend who is 12days younger could turn over at 6 weeks old!!!!
