Odd question...
« on: September 16, 2006, 11:24:33 am »
Is it odd that my dd only goes back wards in her walker (her feet don't touch all the way yet, just her tip toes)?  Also, while on her tummy instead of being able to move forwards she usually ends up scotching herself backwards.  She is not at the crawling age yet, but the backwards thing seemed a little odd, maybe not.  ;D

Thanks.
Melissa

I dont think that's odd at all, especially in the walker. I think it's takes much more coordination for a baby to move forward vs backward. I think naturally their legs like to push, it takes a bit more development to pull forward. OMO

I agree... it's very normal, especially at her age.

many babies (including mine) crawl backwards before they go forwards. it took liv 6 weeks of pushing herself backwards and in circles before she went forward

my little boy also went backwards in his walker for a long time before he got the hang of going forwards, in fact he's still doing it now! he is 15 months and when he gets on his ride on car or bike he can only go backwards so i didnt think you have any thing to worry about, they do what they find works the best from them.

Read somewhere that they tend to go backwards when learning to crawl as arms pushing with more force than legs.  Nothing to worry about at all. My LO sometime Scotches forwards but that's when he gets onto knees and throws himself in that direction. Kamikaze Lucas  :)
