Autumn watch
« on: October 03, 2006, 16:19:24 pm »
Here in the UK the BBC are running a set of programmes for the onset of Autumn. There are adult programmes every night with nature and birds and animal info and the best thing is they do a children's programme too!
I know lots of you can't get BBC or CBeebies, but the accompanying web site is still great and worth a look,

http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/autumnwatch/

Holly and I went out 'spotting' today. I printed off some of the info from the spotting section and the front page and made her a book. We had a lovely 2 hours in the woods finding all sorts of wonderful things. We found
-mushrooms and toadstools
-berries
-acorns
-horse chestnuts
-a squirrel
-lots of muddy puddles!!!!

We wrote them all down in her book and drew pictures, i also took some photos which I will stick in and we bought some leaves and twigs and stuff home with us to make pictures with!

We had such a great day I wanted to encourage you all to get out there in the autumn sun! (if its autumn where you are that is!!)

We watch autumnwatch too, me and Mikey went to collect leaves for a scrap book a few days ago and next friday when df has his day off we are going to take them both into the woods with Mikeys camera and go 'spotting' its a great idea, we did the same with springwatch too... although the leaves arent nice colours yet so i was pretty disappointed :(

Its tricky for the BBC isn't it! When they did springwatch I remember it being a heatwave at the time and we were all basking in 25 degrees plus, all the springy things had gone. Now when they planned Autumn watch to be in the first week of Oct they probably though they were safe! But no, last week it was still 22 degrees and the poor trees are confused! In a wood of hundreds of oak trees today, we only found one acorn!!!!! The rest were barely even buds!

I'm seeing this as a work in progress that actually quite gladly I can span out for 6 weeks or so!
