Peanut Butter
« on: October 04, 2006, 21:05:08 pm »
I was just wondering.......

Both DP and I suffer terribly from Hayfever.  Can the introduction of Peanut butter lead to this in DS?

If not, is it safe to introduce now?

I dont know that answer, but my pedi said no nuts until 3 years because LOs seem to aspirate them into the lungs.

Mine said none until 5 as both parents have hayfever and I have asthma.  Soybutter maybe?  Tastes similar, Charlotte loves it.

I've never heard of the conection of asthma or hayfever to peanut butter  :-\   I have asthma and my doctor said nothing about it. DD was started on PB at 13 months because MIL didn't know about the 2 year thing here, DD did fine and actually really like PB..

Hi Paula
I have eczema & hayfever & dh has asthma so our HV has said no nuts of any kind until 3 yrs as dd is high risk for allergies. The general advice seems to be if either parent has allergies then avoid nuts until then

Totally agree - I'd wait until at least 3 given family history...

I'll wait as well. Have you tried to get your LO to have an allergy test? Just blood test if you are worried.
