Hi Janelle,

My DD dropped to 3 bottles of 8ozs at 5months and it worked for us. She also preferred solids over bottles and always has been a great eater. Allow him to have as much solids as he wants but if you fins he is drinking very little at bottle times then you may cut back a little. So this was our routine from 5-8months:

7am - Bottle
8am - Solids
12pm - Lunch
1pm - Bottle
5pm - Solids
6.30pm - Bottle.

Janelle... a couple of the tricks I used to get more EBM into Liam when he wasn't bf much when teething.
I had left over feed thickener from when Aiden was a baby with reflux & mixed EBM with it to make a "jelly" & then fed it to him... you could easily do that with formula (feed thickener was bought from the pharmacy - Karicare I think).
rather than thin out Veg with water, use formula.
I think with creativity I managed to get him to take an extra 150mls in solid food

If you do find an answer to this problem, please tell me!
Kieran went off his bottle about a month ago, after he had a head cold (so I know it's not teething - no teeth yet) and frankly he's a pain to feed. I think I've tried everything. The only way to get him to feed is basically to pin him down and force the nipple into his mouth. AFter a minute or so of yellng at me he'll eat.
So, after discovering this, I started to feel awful, that I was basically bullying my child. So I decided to let him choose how much he wanted to eat, for a couple of days.
Well, the first day he took 20 oz (including a 6 oz df). The second day he took 16 oz during the day - and we didn't make it to 11pm at the df. He woke screaming hungry at 9, 1, 4 .... I could have strangled him. If he eats when and what I think he should, he sleeps through the night!
So, I've got no choice, really. I have to be a bit of a bully about milk, and I hate doing it. SO if you find the answer - please, please share.

Amazing how much I have forgotten!  I can barely rememer what i did and when with Ella :'(

We too are going to space out the bottles first and then maybe drop one if need be.

Let me know how everything is working out for you  :)

Well we ended up dropping a bottle and are now on 3.  He takes much more now we have done that.  Neither of my kids have ever been big drinkers though.  I try to get the extra milk into him by mixing it with his solids which he just loooooooves.  Sometimes I can sneak an extra 20 or so mls in just before bed time.  I'm kind of just going with flow and trying not to think about it......now if I could just get the kid to sleep (sigh) ::)

Have you tried giving some milk before then the rest after bath time, I always managed to get more in then  to really tank him up.

I seem to be having the same problem .

7 month lo loves her food and is on 3 meals a day - two courses at lunch and dinner but her milk intake has plummeted. Today she barely made 10oz. I am already down to 3 bottles a day (7am, 3pm + bedtime) and she's on size four teats.

I am trying to make sure her solids diet is balanced and she's getting dairy (yoghurts and cheese). She also loves water so I think she's getting enough liquid.

Am I stressing unnecessarily or should I go with the flow? :-\

Charlottewoo try a faster teat - the avent variable are faster than the avent 4.

We just had a similar problem and the fast nipple was what helped.  I hope everything gets worked out.

Thank you all. Charlotte seems to be back on the bottle a bit more... Maybe she's just getting used to all the food. I will try the variflow too though  :)
