Routine vs Schedule?
« on: November 01, 2006, 23:49:20 pm »
I have an 11 week old son who has been on EASY since he was 4 weeks.  We've had issues with napping since forever, but I think we've finally worked those out (crossing my fingers).  That said, we're still just doing an overall routine in 2-3 hour cycles depending on how long his activity and nap times are.  I can't post a "typical" day, because it varies every day.  Even wake up time varies between 5:30 and 7:00.

Activity times are usually 45mins to an hour and naps are 1-1.5 hrs in the am and get longer in the evening.  The last nap around 5 just merges into night sleep.  We have to wake him up to feed him and change is diaper in the evenings.  There isn't a real nightime ritual because he just wants to go back to sleep!

Night sleep isn't usually bad.  A df around 10:30 and he sleeps until a 2:30-3:30 am feeding.  Then back up anytime between 5:30 and more usually 6:30.

I'm wondering if I just roll with that?  We're getting to the "magical" 3 month mark that everyone talks about, and I question if a "real schedule" will fall in place on it's own or if I need to be doing something to encourage more standard times.

I know I'll laugh that I ever worried about this in another 6 months!   ;D

Sounds like you two are doing great.. I would only maybe suggest tightening wake time.. That may help you with bedtime.  But if you are comfortable with a varying schedule then let it be and good job mommy

Your son sounds a lot like mine was at that age, right down to the napping issues, but around 3 months it got much easier. I just rolled with it (and still do), and eventually things will take a more consistant shape as they get older. Now at 10 months my son Ben pretty much wakes at the same time every morning, and therefore eats and takes naps at roughly the same time every day, of course I'm still watching his cues rather than the clock, but you really could set a watch to him now.

It sounds like you're doing great! :)
