Advice on starting finger foods.
« on: November 02, 2006, 09:15:52 am »
Hi all, my little girl is just 7 1/2 months old and i'd like to start finger foods. I really need help as i don't know what to give her and big should the piece be, i've been delaying introducing finger foods as i'm scared she'll choke but i know i haveto introduce it very soon. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. TIA.

I just started my 8 months old on finger foods a couple of weeks ago.  We started with little tiny pieces of banana.  I decided to start with mushy food, so that he would be less likely to choke.  He has been doing great.  We have done peaches, cooked carrots, and just started Cheerios today.  I was so scared to give my son cheerios because I was afraid he would choke, but he surprised me and did great.  Good luck to you!

We also started on soft mushy foods like bananas.  We gave DS a baby biscuit at around 8 months and watched him very closely, he sucked it until it broke off and handled it very well.
