NEED SOME TRAVEL ADVISE PLEASE
« on: November 14, 2006, 10:23:51 am »
my dd is 6 months old and I am going away to stay at friends for a weekend with her. im a bit worried that she will not sleep well in a travel cot as she loves her cot at home. Does anybody have any advise for taking babes away. She naps normally 3 times a day and goes to bed at 6.30 through till 6 with 1 night feed. Its really stressing me that going away is going to muck up her routine. please help

We are going on vacation in Decmeber and I have thought about the same thing.  I plan on putting the pack-in-play (travel cot) in his room about a week prior to the trip and have him sleep in there for his naps and bedtime so that he gets used to it.  We will be gone for 2 weeks so it is important that he can sleep in there.  If it is only going to be one or two nights I am not sure if I would go through all the effort.  It might help though.

My advise is to stick to routine as best as possible (but don't get too stressed if the routine goes a little hay-wire!!)..  She may have a hard time the first night but she will be OK...  My LO has travelled 3 times since birth and although things took about a week to get back to "perfect" upon our return home, it has not affected her/or us negatively in the long run!

yes, practice with the pack & play.  also, have him sleep on a blanket or sheet that you will use in the pack & play, but then don't wash it before you go - then it will smell like home.

Jaime- I like the idea of having the blanket that smells like home.

thank you everyone for your advise. I spoke to my friend last night and she said that her lo will be happy sleeping in her travel cot so I can use her cot if I want for my dd. I think this may be a good idea as I can lay it out like it is at home. What do you all think? I also think that it would work well to have the blanket that smells of home.

We take all dd's bedding from her cot at home. The p&ps have those mesh sides meaning she can look out at a strange room. I make sure I cover the sides with a blanket, towels, my sling, whatever just so it's a bit cozier and she doesn't get too suprised when she wakes.
