Must Read!!
« on: November 16, 2006, 01:49:05 am »
There is a woman who came on Oprah on Monday who claims to have figured out what babies are saying.
I have attached a link to Oprah's site as well as Priscilla Dunstans site;

link to oprah's site
http://www2.oprah.com/tows/slide/200611/20061113/slide_20061113_350_101.jhtml

link to that lady's site
http://www.dunstanbaby.com/

Since watching this show it has been literally life changing for me. I put Kaiya to bed tonight with no shushes, patting or crying(her not me ;))  I just listened to what she was saying to me and met her needs
then i put her in her crib stuck her nuky in her mouth rubbed her back said nighty night and she fell asleep
I am thinking that with the shush pat method i was actually telling her to shut up when she was trying to tell me what was wrong
tonight I listened to everything she asked for and did it!
I am so excited about this

here are the words and what they mean

    *  Neh="I'm hungry"
    * Owh="I'm sleepy"
    * Heh="I'm experiencing discomfort"
    * Eair="I have lower gas"
    * Eh="I need to burp"

This really works

Tonight i fed her and burped her and put her down she started to say 'eh' so i picked her up and burped her.."i got another one out"
this is incredible.

If your baby is older than 3 months and you have ignored these words they will unfortunately stop using them according to Priscilla.
Check out the links and listen to your baby.
I think you will be amazed!

Happy Mom

This was aired in the US so we haven't had it here in the UK yet - so thanks for the link :)

It's really fascinating stuff - I definitely identified with the sounds as Ewan makes them.

Really interesting.

love

Marie

my daughter is 3.5 months and still making them so it may not be too late for you Jazmyn. Next time your lo is talking listen they are very different sounds.
if nothing else it is just a new tool to add to the cues you are watching for.

I totally agree!  My LO is 3 1/2 weeks old and being a FTM i had a horrible time trying to interpret what he needed.  After seeing Oprah on Monday, our lives have been so much more pleasant.  I'm sure it's not 100% fool-proof but yesterday there's was almost no crying because each time he started to fuss, I listened carefully and then met that need.  Hope this continues! :)

my lo is 31/2 months and she is still saying everything. so i think as long as you have always tended to there needs and never let them cry it out you should have no problem recognizing them.

I don't have to shsh pat her to sleep anymore i listen to what she says fix it and lay her in her crib AWAKE and she puts herself to sleep
itis an incredible tool
