is my ds eating too much
« on: November 20, 2006, 18:37:24 pm »
he is 8wks old. i have been giving him 4oz. every 3 hrs. his feeding schedule goes something like this
7AM, 10AM, 1PM, 4PM, 6PM.
i also give him cluster feed @ 8:30PM/9PM and 10:30PM/11PM but he is still waking up @ nite between 2:30AM - 3:30AM
should i continue cluster feeding him @ 9PM? he has been sleeping from 6PM - 2:30AM, sometimes, he sleeps after 4PM feeding.
is he eating too much? my doctor mentioned he shouldn't be drinking more than 32oz per 24hrs? @ nite, i give him 4oz and he drains it all.
thanks,

Your schedule looks good.  Looks like your little man has become an efficient eater.  At 8 weeks and only having 1 night waking, your lo is doing fantastically.

I don't think that your lo is eating too much, some lo's can take in excess of 40 oz per day.  If your little man is hungry then feed him.

You are doing great.

my dd is 10wks old and eats anywhere from 3oz-5oz every 3hours.  at night i dont do a 9pm feeding but i dreamfeed at 1030 and she eats at 3ish.  i would keep the 9pm feeding especially if he is "draining" the bottle.  a sure fire way to know if he is over eating is if he is spitting up a lot.  hope i helped :)

I would stick with what you are doing right now.  My DD generally ate an extra 2oz on a monthly basis up until about 4 months...  She was eating 4 OZ at 2 months...  now she is 10 months and has been consistantly eating 3 x 90z bottles since she was about 8.5 months and is a healthy weight and height...
Do what you think your baby needs!

I would stick with the 9pm feed - especially if it is helping him sleep more.

Keep us posted on how you get on.

when DS was this age his last feed was 2030/45 we couldn't fit all his feeds in, bath him, dress him, feed us, etc........     You do what you need to when they are this young.

Your bedtime will come forward to 1930/2000 when you Lo is a bit older, so I wouldn't worry and continue if this is working for you.
